Although I’ve resided in Boston or Newton my entire life, I’ve always found Boston’s “smallness” to be quite unusual — to me, Brookline, Cambridge, Somerville, Everett, Chelsea, Winthrop, Revere, Medford, Malden, Belmont, Arlington, Watertown, Milton, Quincy and the eastern parts of Newton (02458/02467) should all be part of the city of Boston.

This is kind of like asking “what famous model would you date?”. Doubt many (any?) of these municipalities would be interested at all in being part of Boston.

I'd go the other direction. Let's devolve Boston back into all its original cities and towns.

Would this mean re-attaching Everett, Malden, Stoneham, Woburn, Medford and Somerville to Charlestown? Or Allston/Brighton, Lexington, Arlington, and Newton to Cambridge?

I’ve heard that Tokyo has a municipal government that takes a bunch of smaller municipalities and allocates some responsibilities to the larger city government and some to the smaller.

I like to imagine that something similar would work well in Boston.
