I've loved Philadelphia every time I visit. I've never had a problem with crime, either. It's a great city and I also know several people who are planning to move there (including me, possibly).

I gotta laugh every time I hear someone say how much they loved a place they just *visited*...
Anyone who knows about moving knows any place is rarely the same as when you visit vs actually living there. It's a whole different animal.

That's like thinking you know everything about a person from just a date or two

And just because you hate the city doesn't mean everyone should too.

Excellent assessment..I can't wait to get there on a weekend and visit.

I grew up in Tacony/Mayfair all my life. And while the area isn't as nice as it used to be, even just 10 years ago, it isn't that bad either. I mean, I feel safe walking around there as a female. But maybe because I am used to the area? It's hard to say."

Hey is that near St. Ambrose Catholic church on Roosevelt Blvd? I spent part of my wonderful youth( 8-12 years old) on E, F street area. I forgot the name of the apartment complex there on Roosevelt Blvd.
I used to go down the Tacony creek with friends hunting for frogs, crayfish, whatever, playing stick ball, riding my Huffy. Like to go visit. Anyway, is that Mayfair?
How is it like now? It used to be mostly blue collar white neighborhood.[/QUOTE]

Of course part of it is that you're used to it and nostalgic about it regardless of what it's like, although I've got neighbors here in Bridesburg that can even see that where they grew up in Juniata has changed alot!

As far as Mayfair/Wissinoming,my wife moved out of there in 2002 and even before that she said it started going downhill. Of course I've learned to take everything prideful Philly 'neighborhoodies' say with a grain of salt because if a place isn't to their liking compared to where they're from they tend to trash on it alot quicker. Although I've been through there with her recently and I agree it doesn't look like as good of a place as it might have once been.

I think Philly is great, have a great time every time visit and love the history and culture of the city. I love its Northeast feel. Philly, NYC, Boston, and DC will always be the best cities in my book.
