Anyone know anything about Oreland, PA? Located in Montgomery County northwest of Philly?

Oreland is an extremely small community outside of Fort Washington and very close tp Philly. I think it's two blocks long. The neighborhood is mostly suburban older professionals A friend of mine rented a house there and he became the black sheep of the neighborhood. He lived with two other guys. They threw parties and did all the stuff that twentysomethings do. The neighbors hated them. When my friends and I would visit we would receive vicious glares on our way in and out of the house. When he left the neighbors were thrilled.

But, anyway I would reccomend it. It is a very nice neighborhood community.

I know a few families who live there. It's basically a family community, I think. Good schools are in the area, there's quite a bit to do around it (It's between Philly and small towns like Glenside, Willow Grove, and Hatboro), people seem pretty friendly there.

Oreland is a very nice middle class 'burb in Montgomery County (www.montcopa.org) (broken link). It is a town in Springfield County, and overall, is VERY friendly. The kids go to school at Enfield Elementary (Springfield school district) or the local parochial school, Seven Dolars. There are several churches in the community, some shops and a small supermarket. There is one of THE best community abd family oriented parades held on Independence Day, with a Lions Club Car Show in a park afterward. There is a SEPTA (septa.org) regional rail line that has a station in town, and the PA Turnpike (Ft Washington Interchange) is 5 minutes away, as well as other major travel routes.

Nice place. Very safe, very quiet, very family oriented. You may be bored but you won't be worried.

I'm from out of town and looking for a house. I saw one on Twining Rd. in Oreland, PA. Can anyone tell me about the neighborhood, shopping and schools.

Twining Rd. is considered East Oreland which is in the Upper Dublin School District, which is highly respected. They have just begun building a new high school which will take several years to build. I'm not sure what the local elementary school is but it is not in walking distance, though the middle school is.

You would be within walking distance of a deli, farmers market (on Saturdays), small food market, pizza place, restaurant/bar. Other necessities like post office, banks, hardware, liquor store would be within a mile. Willow Grove mall and big box retailers are within about a 10-15 minute ride. You're also close to the R5 Regional Rail into Philly (about 30-35 minute ride).

It's a good neighborhood, lots of families, there's a neighborhood women's group that has been around for a long time - they generally meet monthly and host some community events. Twining Rd. gets more traffic than other streets in the neighborhood but it's not a major thoroughfare.

Default nice for yourself

I am originally from the area, moved away, and just returned specifically to Oreland. In terms of Twining Road, it is a main local road, but I cross it many times everyday at rush hour while running and almost never have to wait for traffic. In terms of Oreland, itself, it is downright picturesque, and I think Twining Road is on the better side of the town - more sylvan. The area is safe and comfortable, with amenities such as a nice (albeit really small) farmer's market on Saturdays, a great breakfast spot, post office, and train right into Philly. I hope I don't offend anyone, however, by saying that the people here are not as endearing. Again, let me stress that I'm from around here most of my life, so I understand that people in the East Coast are a bit more standoffish than people in the Midwest or West. However, I have found the neighbors' distance and lack of welcome somewhat shocking. They maybe say hi if they're friendly, but that's it. And that's with a front porch I sit on every weekend! I did, however, have one neighbor from the next block over, after a few weeks, introduce herself on a walk and apologize on behalf of the neighborhood. She flat out said that she always feels bad from people from out of the area move in because they think the locals are rude. This neighbor then said that people just have their friends already and don't need any new ones! While almost comedic, I feel her description is accurate of the people here. So, long story short, very nice, safe, pretty, convenient area, just don't hope you'll find a neighbor who'll welcome you or will be willing to lend you a cup of sugar!
