My family is going to be relocated to Philadelphia soon and we are looking to move to West Chester or a surrounding area. I have read wonderful posts about that area and think it will be a great place for us. We would like to start out by renting to get used to the area before we think about buying.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good apartment complex to rent in? We would like something that is affordable, clean and family friendly. It doesn't have to be newest place in town, but well maintained. We also have a cat, and from what I've seen not all places allow pets... We are willing to spend up to $1200 in rent.

If anyone has other suggestions for towns, those would be welcome also! We need someplace near Philadelphia (within 30-40 mins) and also provides an easy commute to New Castle, DE - no more than an hour drive.

You might be interested in checking out Golf Club Apartments on West Chester Pike. Currently, I don't know anyone who lives there, but I've driven by (it's a pretty large complex) and they have a sign outside that says "Pet Friendly". Good luck!

I used to live in the Whiteland West Apartments in Exton, about 5 miles north of West Chester. I lived there for almost four years and would definitely recommend it. Nice, well-run complex in a good area. Convenient to shopping; also good schools.

Maybe check out places right on the PA/DE border in Boothwyn, Concordville, Thornton, Glen Mills, North Wilmington. Even West Chester is not going to get you downtown in that amount of time.

You need to be along Route 202, Route 1 or I-95 (and Naaman's Creek Road in DE) to equalize the commute.

Meetinghouse apartments is right there on Naaman's Road and has decent places and is technically in Boothwyn. I would recommend a place with Unionville/Chadds Ford or Garnet Valley schools in that area if you have kids. West Chester SD is also good.
