I have no children and I want to start fresh in philly any suggestions im looking to rent an apartment for $1000 or less. Could anybody point me in the right direction and/or suggestions on what I need to keep into serious concideration. Oh and this would be my first place. thanx

Assuming you're working in Center City (downtown) you'll want to live there too as it will likely have most of the after-work fun you'll be seeking.

$1000 might be a little tight for the most popular spots (i.e. Old City, Northern Liberties, Rittenhouse Square) but more outlying areas like SW Center City and the Art Museum may work. West of Center City, University City would definitely work if you look west of 43rd Street. Some parts of South Philly would be worth looking into as well. (Would anyone here know about the rental situation in Queens Village/Bella Vista?)

If you're working outside of Center City - or Philly in general - it would be hard to answer without more details.

south of girard ave. is generally nice but expensive (closer to the art museum/fairmount area). north of girard is very sketchy, i would not recommend it if you are not familiar with the area or this is your first place in philly.

Try the listings in the Philly Weekly; I had good luck with the PW in the past. Bella Vista and Queen Village might be good options for both price and location (I can personally vouch for Bella Vista). And if it seems way too good to be true, it probably is.
