I just got into drexel university for gradschool and i have to start school on aug. 3 of this year. I'm stressing out about finding a place to live.

How much can you afford in rent? There are not apartment complexes in center city, but rather high rise buildings (expensive) or walk ups (less expensive). You should look in the Rittenhouse Square (western end of center city) area or Washington Square West (midtown). You definitely don't need a car. You will have easy public transportation access. On a nice day you can even walk from Rittenhouse Square.
The Philadelphia Weekly comes out every Wednesday. You should check that for rentals.

cars aren't necessary. there are late night buses as well like the market frankford nite owl that can be packed with westbound students from center city bars. east of broad is generally cheaper than west of broad. the el takes about five minutes tops from 11th to drexel. craigslist si great for rentals as well. In the Weekly, Michael Singer RE is pretty good. you may also want to consider "University City" which is basically the area shared by Drexel and Penn (32nd to 44th) it's chick full of student rentals and has been booming of late. there's a movie theater, gym, and grocery store at 40th and walnut. a bar with 75 taps is opening there (among other things), and is convenient to public transit.
