We are taking Amtrack from Harrisburg to Philadelphia to visit Temple U. Do we go to 30th Street Station than a cab to Temple or do we go to North Philadelphia on the train? Can we get a taxi from North Philadelphia to Temple and do we need one or can we walk? Will we be able to get a taxi from Temple to go back to the train station?

i am a temple student and i highly reccommend the university. All you have to do is get off at 30th Street Station and then walk over to the SEPTA trains. Nearly all trains stop at Temple so you are going to want to look for trains that are going towards center city. The R2 Warminster, R3 West Trenton, R5 Doylestown-Lansdale, R6 Norristown, R7 Chestnut Hill East, and R8 Fox Chase will all take you there. Just ask the conductor before you get on the train to make sure you are on the right one. Once you get to Temple go down the stairs and the station and make a right and keep walking until you are in the middle of campus. If you have any more questions feel free to email me.Moderator Cut

Yeah, you definitely want to take SEPTA trains from 30th Street Station to Temple University; there's no need for a taxi. The only question is whether you take one of the Regional Rail trains (i.e. the trains mentioned by the poster above) or the Market-Frankford Line and Broad Street Line to Cecil B. Moore. The Regional Rail trains would be much more convenient and probably faster, while the MFL and BSL would be cheaper and run a little more frequently (or more accurately, run at more consistent times than the Regional Rail train lines). For someone not familiar with Philadelphia or the SEPTA system, I'd recommend using the Regional Rail trains.

Get off at 30th street station.

Walk out and across the street to Market Frankford Line eastbound. Get off at 15th (literally the next stop.)

Walk to the end of the platform toward the signs that say "broad street subway."

Take a LOCAL train NORTHBOUND, and get off at Cecil B. Moore (5 stops- Temple.)

Should take you all of 15 minutes. If you can't swing that little ride, you may not be suited to live here

Cost: $2.00 (vs. $30 for a cab)

I have never taken Amtrak to Philly. Does the Amtrak train make any other stops other than 30th st station? Does it stop at Suburban Station and head to Trenton?

Here is a Septa Map. Temple is right on Broad Street and the Broad Street Subway stops right at Temple. Many of the regional rail lines also stop at Temple. The BSL is orange and the Market East is blue. The Cecil B. Moore stop is Temple U.

Keep your Amtrak ticket stub and ride for free on SEPTA Regional Rail. You don't want to try to figure a subway ride and a transfer at City Hall your first time around.

Just ask one of the Amtrak people where the SEPTA Regional Rail is. Specify Regional Rail. Otherwise people will send you outside to the subway and trolleys.

As you're walking up the ramp to the regional rail trains you'll see monitors overhead. One of them should say "next train to center city" it will tell you the time and platform number. They all go to Temple. Those trains leave 30th St. stop at Suburban Station, Market East then Temple.

That said, the Temple campus is really big and the train station is on the edge of campus. You might want to take the train there and a taxi back to 30th St.

You can only use the Amtrak ticket stub for travel between 30th Street Station and either Suburban Station or Market East Station. Riders do have to pay if they are traveling to the Temple University Regional Rail station.
