Latin translation (self)

Okay, this is a little off for the Phil forum, but if there's a better fit on C-D, I can't find it.

Watchmen and Juvenal fans are quite familiar with the phrase "Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes" - Who will guard the guardians?/Who will watch the watchmen?

In the early days of the graphic novels, a button was sold as part of a set that reads "Ego Ipse Custodes Custodio" - which, I've found, is ignorantly explained as having the same meaning, or as being the Latin source for the English version. My Latin is a little shaky, but I can tell that's not what it says, and a couple of translation tools show a garbled version of what I think it means - "I (will?) Watch the Watchmen."

Any Latin mavens who can correct/confirm/comment? Thanks...

From (long ago) memory--Ego ipso means I myself.

Custodes would be the plural of custos.

Custodio is the first person indicative of custor.

So...I guard the guards.

Thanks. I realize it's not the most literate genre and half-truths tend to propagate unchecked, but it's maddening to see the two phrases confused.

Maybe op you had to write the whole sentence it would have been easier to understand...here we go, Shut the door, keep other ppl out, but who will supervise the overseers? The wife is smart she will start with those. wants to mean that the woman is very clever / smart ( in evil sense ) she will start to corrupt the vigilantes, so the vigilantes control the others... I control the vigilantes.
