Don't know enough to comment, as I've never read anything he's written, but the obituary of him that I read yesterday made me somewhat interested in investigating his work. Given that my dad read his novels pretty consistently (up to and including 'I Am Charlotte Simmons')...that right there indicates to me that you may have a case. That is a brand of evidence that is meaningless to almost anyone but me, but given my father's personality and reading preferences....

The word "philosophy" means love of knowledge, so yes.

In this world of academic hyperspecialization, he might not get a job in a university philosophy department, though, except possibly the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago, where things are done the old-fashioned way.

Don't know who he is, but regardless, most modern philosophers are inferior to the classics from the past centuries.

I'm going to miss Tom Wolfe. He sure had a way with words. I loved this phrase in "The Right Stuff": ..."did not realize he was not equally gifted in all forms of locomotion..." talking about the time Chuck Yeager came off a horse the night before he was supposed to break the sound barrier.
