Just curious if there are any manufacturing engineers out there - specifically in aerospace - that transplanted from other parts of the country? How difficult was it to find a job?
I'm getting mixed messages; some people are saying that manufacturing is picking up, and others are saying the opposite...

It depends on where your'e working, I s'pose.

Honeywell is in the process of moving much of their machining business out of the country. Long term? Not a very good opportunity there. Short term? Possibly. They need support staff with all of the transitions taking place.

I work for a company that "fills the gap" during such transitions. I.e., we make stuff while they're tooling up.

A lot of times we continue to "make stuff" after the transition to help with demand. Sometimes we end up getting the job outright because we can do it at a better price with higher quality.

Many smaller companies aren't doing so well right now because they're not competitive with China, Mexico, Czech Republic, et al regarding price.

I suspect that work will eventually drift back to us, but that may be wishful thinking.

Always the optimist.....
