Is Phoenix, or other areas of Arizona, a good place for a manufacturing engineer to get a job? I'm looking to move out of Michigan.

Are there many manufacturing jobs in Arizona? I have a manufacturing engineering degree and come from Ohio but I never even thought to look for jobs in that field in Arizona...

Not heavy manufacturing, so much. Historically, there has been a large electronics manufacturing component here with Motorola, Honeywell, and lots of others. That all started slowing down long before this latest downturn.

I'd agree with scout, five years ago the pages were full of job opportunities (all types) and today there are very few. I do pt work in a shop that has steady work but the ft guys are keenly aware of their job status and covet them with few other options. I'd say a few years ago you could shop hop around to you find what you liked but not right now.

I'm a machinist with an aerospace shop; hail from Michigan too.

They pay better here. Heavy on CNC programming, complex castings and incredible tolerances. Makes sense, eh?

The job market is VERY tight right now.

Keep on eye out on CareerBuilder.
