How hard is it? i keep trying to get one as a clerk. All i do is register patients and discharge them in a very busy fast paced clinic. i see over 100 patients in one day easily.
So when the employers hear that you live thousands of miles away does this discourage them? Must i move then look for one?

Well, my girlfriend and I both have college degrees, and she is going after her masters degree right now. We both have decent experience, and have been applying to Phoenix area for the past 2.5 years now with only a few callbacks, and no job offer worth the trip.

In this economy it is going to be TOUGH to get an employer to even notice you for entry work.

We have another friend who just got a job with a college in Arizona, but he was in a very specialized field and he has his masters.

Take a couple weeks off work, move into a extended stay hotel, and beat the pavement, including the temporary agencies. If you can get any work lined up, then move out.

Even with that, have 6 months of living expenses in the bank because what can go wrong probably will.

In this economy I think it's hard to find distant work anywhere unless you are highly skilled. I moved to AZ on a whim and found a job but it's security work that is low pay and requires no skill. If you can live off a menial job for awhile it might be worth a shot. Otherwise you may want to put your plans on hold or follow the advice given above.

Rent a UPS Store box and use google voice (free!) to get a local phone number. Makes the world of difference.

I second this idea.

My mobile phone is still a Dallas based number, but accessible via a Google Voice number in the 480 area code. The people calling me on the GV number have no idea I'm using a 972 area code-based cell phone.

The reason I say UPS store instead of PO Box, is because the UPS store will be a real street address. The store will also forward your mail weekly for you.

The only people getting jobs from a distance in this economy are highly skilled / specialized and likely not unemployed.

Simply, to appear local so your resume/application isnt immediately discarded. As mentioned, it looks better to be a local when applying for jobs.
