Well said kdog.... if we all listened to the critics there wouldn't be any small businesses.

I'll stick to what I know... opening and running successful businesses and Fumari can stick to...grad school... maybe he'll learn about business there.

With that said I'm finished bantering with him... But I would still enjoy hearing from all of you who have something constructive to say.

Wow, I just checked this thread and am shocked with the negativity. I've seen coffee shops fail, even my favorite ones and that was when the economy was good (if you are checking my post history I lived in the valley 10 years before moving to Austin for 5 and just moved back so I'm not "new"). The key is being unique and esnox82 knows that. I imagine Michigan has 10,000 Starbucks too. He posted here to get opinions on location. Let's help him out and thank him for choosing the valley for investing and employing people.

Sheesh!
It's his money, effort and time so what's the problem?
Even if the business fails, he has still contributed to the local economy. Buying stuff from local suppliers, paying taxes, renting or leasing space. He is still contributing to the economy so why not wish him the best of luck or show him why it's too big of a gamble?
What's wrong with that????

You don't own a retail store, you're lying. If not, tell me which one it is.

I don't know, you'd be competing with every chain known to man.

Central Phoenix is full of non-chain places. it's hard to discern exactly what it is that you sell or do, but whatever it is, there is more of it in the areas of higher density. I'm amazed on a daily basis about the number of successful non-chain businesses in the central city.

That's not to say that you could not be successful in the target area--some independent businesses are.

I'd be supportive of a new coffee shop - FWIW, as someone from Michigan, I really miss Tim Horton's and my xmas gift from the in-laws has been a case of Tim's coffee for the past several years.

I tried alot of coffee shops before giving up and deciding to just import the stuff. Perhaps I'm unusual, but I went to the trouble of installing a reverse osmosis and buying a real restaurant "Bunn" coffeepot to get the "right" flavor.

The best cup of coffee I've ever had was in a small coffee shop in CA - the owner roasted his own beans every day - there isn't any way to replicate that in a chain store.

Most certainly, the economy is a factor, but there's always room for someone with a better product.

If posts like these are another example of how you do business... "Karma" bites sometimes

Esnox82...best of luck

Kinda what I was thinking. That's all I can come up with why he is so against this man opening a business.
If that's how he runs his business, I'm guessing his employees (assuming he is a business owner and he has any employess to begine with) are none to happy to work for him.
