Playboy is well known for its dislike of body modifications. Hef is old school...and possibly a factor of why they are not as successful as they use to be.

I think one reason why tattoos and piercings are not welcomed in the service, medical, dental industry is that there's the thought of them being unsanitary.

Tats and piercings don't bother me. They're just like folks that leave their Christmas lights on 'til Easter.

It doesn't bother me, but it's something that I wouldn't do.

But it bothers some hiring managers, this I know.

Take yer chances......

I have a rather large tat that is covered at all times while at work (health care). Occasionally it does show through my shirt if the material is thin. No one has ever commented on it. The policy states that tattoos are fine in moderation. If they are offensive or scary, they must be covered.

Piercings are another ballpark. A case in the U.S. traced a hospital-acquired MRSA infection back to a nurse or nursing assistant that had a nose piercing. She didn't know she was an active MRSA carrier (which is in the sinus cavities). She may have touched her piercing sub-consciously, and then touched her patient. The patient contracted MRSA and died. Since that case, we have banned all facial piercings and nurses may not have more than one ear lobe piercing.

I waited to get my one and only tat when I was 31. If this girl wants the same tat when she is 21-31, then she can go for it.

I was wondering that as well...scary and offensive are subjective. Who decides?

I'm guessing this might be frowned upon.

And yet they still allow Nurses to have those long fake fingernails that probably harbor all sorts of bacteria. There actually was a case of a Staph infection transferred from a Nurse with fake fingernails to a patient in a hospital a few years ago.

Seems like prejudice against body mods to me.

I have quite a few tattoos, and a partial sleeve on my left arm....NEVER had any issues obtaining a job...I am a nurse, and the only thing they don't allow is visible piercings, due to them possibly being unsanitary.

When I lived in Scottsdale I saw several places with tattooed employees...resturaunts, whole foods, sprouts, albertsons....I think that most office places would want you to cover them, as they do here. My little sis is a biology teacher in the inner city, and has 2 rather larger ones...she has been a teacher for 10 years, and only this year did anyone even KNOW she had them.. MN was HOT in Sept, and she is in a building with NO A/C, and had worn a shorter short sleeve shirt that day....until then NOBODY was any the wiser...she does not like them to show as SHE thinks it is unprofessional for teachers who are supposed to be mentors to have visible tattoos all over.....everyone is different....problem with tattoos is most people cannot stop at just 1....they are like potato chips!!!

Very accurate response, ExTech.

Another point to consider . . . tattoo removal is extremely expensive and, in most cases, painful.
