Hello everyone

It looks like we are going to be buying a home right off W. Bell Rd. in Surprise
and that my job is going to be about 2 miles off of W. Bell Rd. in Deer Valley.
According to Mapquest the distance is 25 miles.

I was wondering how long this commute will take at rush hour? I prefer to not drive the freeways so this route seems like a straight shot if it is a reasonable drive timewise.

Thank you everyone !

That could be a VERY long drive, timewise. I don't go out there a lot, but my limited experience on that road was not very positive!

I don't live in Surprise so I can't give a definite number. I have driven into Surprise on Bell (evening rush) and it took forever. I'm guessing 60ish+ during rush hour. The 101 from Bell to about 51st is fast and than it's hit or miss from there. It has to be faster then hitting a stoplight every 1/3mi. on Bell.

I know that you can get a lot of house out in Surprise. If you're willing to have a bit less house, you can cut your commute by 75% or more if you look for houses off the Freeway.

Home prices will be cheap for a long time. .....Rent in Surprise. Then when you're stuck in traffic and driving by all these nice houses in your price range, minutes from work, you will be glad you're only renting.

take the 303 to I17. That is the quickest way to get to that side of the Valley from Surprise.

I do not make that trip during rush hour, but you would not take Bell the whole way. You would hop on the 101 at Bell.

I would say from Bell and Litchfield to Bell and the 101 would be 25 minutes on a good day, probably closer to 30. Then, say another 15 to 20 minutes on the 101 to the 35th Avenue exit (or the next exit). So, 40 to 50 minutes would be my guess. It takes me less than 30 minutes for that route, but that is on a couple of Saturdays per month, which is obviously different.

If you are coming from much further west on Bell, add more time or try the 303 suggestion.

I didn't know that the 303 is even finished to I-17-- the ADOT site doesn't show that it is.

You are right about it not being finished. They are working on it, but it has a while to the finish line.

You can still drive it though(the North part)? I took it once from Surprise up to Happy Valley Rd.

I understand that, but then what you are actually doing is taking the 303 to Happy Valley to the 17, not the 303 to the 17. Sounds better than Bell all the way across, which can be a nightmare, as others have indicated, especially on the way back in the afternoon.

Any reason you prefer not to take the highway? Bell road is extremely congested and traffic lights galore. If you insist on not taking the 101, I would take Bell to 75th and then up one mile north to Union Hills, and take that to whatever cross street you are trying to get to...Even 67th up to the much more manageable Greenway would be worth it.

How far out in surprise are you gonna be? Bell road travels the length of surprise so it could be anywhere from a half hour to about an hour
