I am moving to Phoenix in January and want to start looking to buy a house. My school is near the 51 and Bethany Home Road, I will work near Thomas and 7th, and my family lives near Olive and 59th in Glendale so I will want to be somewhat near these three locations. I would prefer to live close to mountains for view and hiking since I am moving from Denver and will REALLY miss the outdoor life here. I prefer to be north of central Phoenix so that I am a closer drive to the Sedona, Flagstaff area. I want to live in a neighborhood that is nice but not too snobby (as I hear Scottsdale can be). We are in our mid to late 30s, no kids so the schools dont matter to us, and being outdoors is more important than a "nightlife". I dont mind a little seclusion if that is the price to pay to not live in stripmall heaven, but would like to not be so rural that we feel out in the middle of nowhere just to go to a grocery store. Comunities with a lot of jogging trails and amenities that cater to us outdoorsy people (and that are clean and not dumpy) are great options, as well as dog parks. Any suggestions? It seems that every area of Maricopa county is extremely different in its social culture and geographical layout.

When you titled your thread "Moving to Maricopa" I thought you meant the city/town southeast of Phoenix, not the county.

I don't think there's that much variation between most of the areas of the county. If you want to stay out of Scottsdale, there's other nice areas all along the more northern side of the Valley with easy access to head north when you want to. I can't speak about dog parks, as I'm between dogs right now and didn't want to go to dog parks when I had one. That's another topic.

I think you should come down here and rent first, not buy, as you don't want to be stuck with something you later find you wish was located somewhere else.
