Is there a neighborhood anywhere in the Phoenix area where we can get away from blowers? I tried to keep the windows open today but the neighbor across the street was getting her yard done. Then the neighbors 2 doors down got their yard done and I swear the guys spend 2 hours with the blowers going constantly. It's like they don't know how to use a broom or a rake!

Maybe I do need to live somewhere cold as much as it would kill me! This goes on all year long. It's bad enough that everyone's dogs bark all day long but then the blowers go. Maybe it's my fault for being home all day long. My husband works out of the house and it's hard for him to be on conference calls because he can hear it even while locked in his office!

Maybe offer to be your neighbor's landscaper? Then you could control when and where the leaf blowers are in use, if at all....

Seriously, if this is what's getting under your skin, then you're life is going pretty darn good and you've got a lot to be thankful for. That would be a good starting point.

Besides, I can't imagine this is a day-in, day-out thing. Most people don't get their yards landscaped every month. I usually do mine twice a year....

So I'm guessing this will blow over pretty quickly (pun intended)....

I had to chuckle when I read your post.

My neighbor across the street had a landscaping company out today and had guys using blowers for about two hours. I also work from home, but it wasn't so bad that it would have interferred with my conference calls.

I look at it as a sign I live in an area where people are willing to spend the money to have their yard look good. I could have a lot bigger problems to worry about like people letting their landscaping go to crap and making the area look bad.

Same thing going on in my area. We were doing our own today. There are so many leaves down because of the frost!

Almost all the leaves are gone from my Mesquite... I'm a little worried. Some in the neighborhood also are missing most of their leaves, while others still have most intact. I'm hoping it's just fine... not looking forward to taking it down if it's not....

Not to worry. Mesquites are well adapted to the climate here. Mesquites loose their leaves every winter and they come back bright green in spring. Some years they look worse than others. Those who say we don't have seasons fail to see what is going on in their own backyards. Just watch. Spring is pretty amazing in the desert actually. I have a big mesquite and I just marvel at how it turns green, blooms and then drops those gawdawful pods everywhere. It's a good time to thin out your mesquite now that you can get "inside" it a bit. If we lose them to anything it is to winds that blow them over when we let them get too dense.

My sissoo also lost all its leaves and looks like a skeleton tree now. But I see new buds on all the branches. Spring is near!

I feel your pain. I hate them as well....

Actually it's really hard to find somewhere without them. I would recommend trying to get away from where you live while they are going through.

So true. It's just one of those every day annoyances around here. And, yes, I have a lot of other troubles in life. As a matter of fact, I was on the phone with my dad's wife when the blowers started and she was informing me of my dad's condition: he's in ICU in NJ for the 3rd time in the past month and the doc's can't find the source of an infection that has twice now led to sepsis.

My issue is that I have a lot of crap going on in my life and I just wanted some peace. And, unfortunately, for every neighbor that can afford almost weekly lawn service, there's a foreclosure right next door with a dilapidated yard.
