I wanted to take an out of business lady to a nice lunch, and try to give her a favorable impression of Phoenix. She was going to catch the LR to the AP, after lunch, it was between the two. We went to China Chili, which is supposed to be old and well known. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, no problem, and we ordered. It was clean, 7.25 for Mongollian beef on the lunch menu. Large portion, very tasty. It was a little to mechanized. Food came very fast, and the check came quickly too. I will give them a B maybe a B+, A on cleanliness. Considering how cold it was, and we were on foot, things worked out well, and SkyHarbor was nice and quiet. I actually prefer Thai food, but it was very solid Chinese.

It can't be that old, I don't think. Glad you enjoyed it though.

China Chili Restaurant Doesn't say when they opened, it had an older feel to it, though. Maybe somebody knows?

Judging from their online menu, it's American Chinese and nothing more. A Chinese person would recognize very little on there. If you want something closer to the real thing, go to Szechwan Palace in the Chinese Cultural Center and take a native with you so you don't get stuck with their English menu.

In 03 people in my office used to go to China Chili all the time for lunch, it was on Central back then, it was always great food at a great price!! They moved to the new place a couple years ago, funny enough, it used to be a Vans shoe outlet. I got some 1990 era Van's half cabs there a few years ago for $20.

Is it the same owner as the Thai Basil that's on E. Chandler Blvd. in Ahwatukee? That place is great.

This is a bit of a stretch.

Their dinner menu certainly has some Western born Chinese dishes but it looks like there is plenty of traditional Chinese food on there too.
