Gas fireplaces are known for sucking the heat right out of the house, through the chimney.

Talk to someone with an all electric hot tub.......................

IF for some reason I need hotter water sooner in the summer I simply turn the knob up some and within a few minutes I have hotter water. I will say though that I would NEVER have a gas fireplace. Had one for a while and the cost of operation did not justify the "warmth" that the gas logs generated. As for outdoor Barbeque I will stick to the ones that use propane.
The reason for the gas fireplace is ability to use it on no burn days. I must admit the flame is underwhelming. The electric fireplaces look more realistic actually. A built-in NG grill is nice and it does not run out of gas in the middle of a cookout. As for the electric hot tub owner in the other post - I am one. No big deal. Set it to heat only off peak. It holds heat well the rest of the time. There are only 35 hours a week that is on peak. Anyway, I have never seen a free-standing gas hot tub around here. NG would be the best way to go for pool heating, but I don't care for swimming in winter anyway. I've always thought a heat pump that also cooled the pool in summer would be nice.

I would be happy with a gas house, maybe even prefer one. But it would not be at the top of my list of must-haves when housing hunting - at least in southern Arizona. I would be a lot more concerned about schools, neighborhood, amenities, location than whether it had gas.
