Hello all, My family is moving to Phoenix, Arizona in the middle of June. My wife and I , with our Daughters are moving from Michigan, My sister in-law lives in Tempe...they have lived there for over 10 yrs...they live in a trailer park...that they bought and fixed up...they are happy where they are...but I prefer to live in a good neighbor hood...my wife is transferring jobs..already has a job lined up...and I will follow her and my kids in August. My concern is We used to live in California where the crime rate was somewhat terrible, and we moved 15yrs ago away from Cali to Michigan, all my kids are grown up now and out of school except one..she is 7 and I was concern about where to live...in Tempe or Scottsdale? I work in the Medical field so I shouldn't have any problem looking for a job...We are soo ready for the change...My family is excited about the move...I have relatives in Texas and California...so now i will be closer to them...Can anyone help and suggest a good area to live? we would probably rent a house or Condo..Three bedroom preferred...want a pool to swim..Me and my wife are in our early 40's and are sooo ready for the change...any advice? thanks.

Welcome to Tempe
There are both good and average sections of Tempe, based on how much you want to spend for your rental.
There are statistics in city-data website comparing zip codes and crime data, you can explore that and make your decision.
Living in Scottsdale is also not a bad idea
I think it all depends how much you want to spend, both cities are good in its own way.
Also, the school districts are good.
Since you would be researching for family oriented places, do consider Chandler and Gilbert.
At the end of the day, it takes at least 30 mins to drive from south tempe to north scottsdale in peak hour (check google maps traffic data).
Keep that in mind as cost of gas is going up.

Areas bordering Tempe are the Baseline Rd area of South Phoenix, and the Ahwatukee area of South Phoenix. Chandler borders Tempe as well. Drive around those areas and I think you will find more than enough places that fit your criteria.
