Had the gun been properly holstered, you are correct. However, it was not. It could just have easily fallen out of his pocket and gone off and killed me as he searched for more nickels and dimes.

And you have no guarantee that just because you have a gun you will not be killed by one.

Fat chance. The kid would have crapped his pants and started crying for his momma. Or he might have hauled off and shot the wrong people including you. Very few people have the training or experience to react quickly and properly in situations where their life is in imminent danger. And you don't get it in a classroom or blasting pictures of Bin Laden at the gun range.

A voice of reason in the wilderness, as usual.

How long have you known the kid?

I don't know about that. It's just fact. A gun is not a door stop or a fashion accessory. It is a killing tool.

These are all assumptions. Who are you to say someone is qualified to carry and use or not? Gun owners I know, I do not own myself, are all safe and make it a point to stress gun safety and learning how to properly use a gun before actually buying a gun. When discussing possible ownership I have been told by all of them "take a class".

Most of these folks are right here in Arizona.

If you were that uncomfortable you should have just left the store.

I would never trust anyone but a combat vet or a cop to react "correctly" in the event someone started firing at him or her and many of them would not either. I just get a hoot out of all these range warriors who are gonna save the day when the bullets start flying. What a crock of BS! The vast majority will not even know what is going down until its over, and the rest will crap their pants or freeze in fear. The odds of being "saved" by one of you heroes in a holdup are about zero.

Sorry, but when you LOOSELY have it hanging out of your pocket, it does not match what you are describing. In fact, he was so preoccupied with the nickels and dimes that even I could have grabbed it and started firing away.
