I don't have a CC, but now in Texas, you can have a gun in your car if you want.

Carrying a gun wouldn't make me suddenly start venturing into crappy parts of town or doing risky things I hadn't before. So I see no point in getting the license and doing it. Besides, they are not allowed in 99% of the places I go (restaurants, hospitals, any place that serves alcohol, etc), so what's the point?

But I advocate the safe CC guys and gals out there. They might be at the next Safeway and save a lot of lives.

Guns aren't the *reason* for those events!

Nutcase criminals who are desperate for cash don't need the gun hanging out of this guy's pocket. They will commit the crime anyway.

I do realize this. But I know nothing of MD.

Ok, so let's go back to my original premise. 18 year old kid who wants to look cool has a gun hanging loosely out of his pocket. Doesn't know how to use the safety feature - maybe. Gun falls out and I get killed. Does it really matter if he's a criminal or not? I'm still dead.

Well, I didn't say this guy wasn't an idiot.
But your question was about why it was necessary to carry a gun into the store, not why do people not holster their firearms properly?

Guns make those events much easier and, as I said, I am the last person on earth to attack the mentally ill.

If he was about looking cool then he had a Glock. No chance it would fire if he dropped it. Now he is more likely to blow his business or his foot off fumbling for change with that gun.

We agree the kid wasn't handling his gun properly.

This is why every kid should be taught to shoot and handle a gun properly.

Yes, you are correct. At the same time, it was very disconcerting to see a gun so loosely positioned. Had it been in a holster, I might have thought this guy knew what he was doing, or was not a gangsta type.

And, yes, my question still stands. I believe the only places necessary for guns are at home or in the car or perhaps, in the case of a woman, in her purse.
