More bad news ...unfortunately. Today U.S. Airways CEO Doug Parker hinted at a possible merger. Unfortunately, the only merger partner left is American Airlines. If U.S. Airways merges with American, that would mean operations would likely be transfered to Dallas Ft. Worth, American Airlines headquarters. U.S. Airways would cease to exist. You can thank U.S. Airways CEO Doug Parker for making this happen and hurting our local economy.

I saw the news too, thanks for the pickup. It is another major loss for us, and I don't see anything which is going to fill in the gap. On the bright side, we have one less airline in the country, which isn't a bad thing.

Hey [mod cut- personal]

Having one less airline is horrible. It means less competition and that three airlines dominate the industry. Less choice for consumers means increased prices.

DP is a piece of rat-____. He was the innovator of only paying crew, when the wheels were up, while at AWA. Guess there was no need to do pre-flight checks. Now that the flight attendants look more like counter help at Denny's, I say good riddance. AA is horrible, and I'm tired of having to explain to Germans why they charge 6 Dollars for a beer on international flights.

You folks are blaming the victim. Airlines are money losers and have been since the first flight by the Wright brothers. What happened to all the old airlines, TWA, Eastern, PanAm? They went bankrupt because of the economics of the business.

Since 2000 there have been over 20 airline bankruptcies, takeovers and mergers. The cost of fuel along with the recession is bringing another wave.

Phoenix has been lucky to have an airline, but Dallas is where businesses are located and where people need to travel.

Phoenix should focus on bringing an international budget airline to Sky Harbor. I know that this airline is on the verge of expanding into the US. Of course, they don't want to go to LAX or SFO. Phoenix would be a logical choice as it is the most similar climate to Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. No free drinks, but the attendants are hot,hot (and young), and I doubt there would be union trouble. Might be time for some new blood in the Valley. You read it here first. Welcome to AirAsia.com... Now everyone can fly

Companies merge and/or fold. It's part of business. No reason to take it personal. No one should be forced to keep a dieing company alive.

If a merger does happen between US Airways and American, it would hurt a lot of people. US Airways is a huge employer here in Charlotte, NC. A merger would mean a lot of lost jobs.

1. It's not a dying company
2. It is making a profit
3. It just wants to make more profit and will do so at the expense of the community. A lot of jobs will be lost and losing U.S. Airways would make a significant impact in the Valley so your "don't take it personal" response is rather glib.
