There are small older 1 acre horse properties in north Phoenix just south of Shea Blvd between 36th and 40th street by the mountain Preserve with trails winding all around the Preserve. This is about 15 min from the Airport and just off SR51

Will Rogers' Equestrian Ranch has on-hand staff. I found a video of the community
here.

If you're interested in a bit more upscale, (but not yuppy), and/or think a plane may be in your future, (up to 12,500 lbs.), you can also check out Circle G Pegasus Airpark. (FAA LID: 5AZ3) It's a luxury, gated community with 1+ acre homesites to accommodate equestrian needs, complete with bridle paths and adjacent horse trail easements. You can also taxi down the runway to your own private hangar. (We have a private airport and 24-hour, self-serve fuel on the field.) Since most residents tend to spend time out of town, your neighbors are usually more than willing to tend to your horses while you're away, if you will do the same for them. There is a video of the community
here, but it doesn't show all.

There are several other equestrian communities too, in addition to non-community, private horse properties.

Good luck in your search

ETA: I was only posting links to the videos, but for some reason they seem to be embedding themselves. Sorry for the "messy" post.

You're very welcome.

Queen Creek very recently completed a beautiful, brand new equestrian center. Even if you're not interested in showing, it's another place to mingle with like minded people if you care to. You can read about it here.

Please let me reiterate from an earlier post, it takes "relatively close" to the airport (PHX) just about to the extreme. When I went into Phoenix the other day, (which I seldom do), I took particular note of the airport exit when I passed. It was approximately 40 minutes from the time I left my house in QC, with no traffic.

I'm sure some of the other areas suggested here by others are very nice, too. You have many options.

Carefree and North Scottsdale are pretty good options. There are horse properties within a half an hour of Sky Harbor.

There are other areas with horse properties within a reasonable distance of Sky Harbor, but I'm not as familiar with those areas.

Staying near PHX will result in the most direct flight options, although horse properties are ample in the rest of Arizona also.

EWR is our fav btw since our apartment in NJ is in Monclair and were also used to taking the train right from manhattan to EWR. But, alas, still no direct flights! JFK is a horror for us to get in and out of so that would be a last choice for sure!

I live in Tucson. It is SUPER HOT here 6 months out of the year. In order to ride -- or do ANY sports for that matter -- during those 6 months, to avoid the brutal heat one must get up in the wee morning hours or ride at night. Plus, one can't turn horses out to pasture here -- there is NO GRASS. For those reasons, I don't think this area is good for horse ownership.

You've revived an old thread, by the way. I'm sure the OP has moved by now. T

he situation is very different in the Phoenix area than it is around Tucson. There are several areas around the Valley where there IS grass pasture on horse propertles. Horse ownership is VERY popular in the Phoenix area AND in Tucson. With or without grass.

You might try the small horse property area just north of Camelback, on the east side of 107th Avenue. Nice homes that are reasonably priced. All in a quiet area. If I was into horses, that's the first place I would go.

This is an old thread from 2011. The OP has already relocated.

Too bad I saw this post only 10 years too late. Lol! I have a beautiful horse estate in it's own private mountain in Arizona. If anyone is still looking for lovely horse property in a laidback town, please DM me. Best!
