I guess this thread is two weeks old. Tell me how one or two weeks make a trend. Also tell me that in light of the 500 engineers (engineers salaries) laid off from GD the first ten business days of June! And more layoffs to come in October!

It looks like I need to pull out the link once again. See PHOENIX, AZ Real Estate Market Report for June 12 2011

The trend (this round) started going up around March. nothing says that was the "bottom" but that is what is going on.

So it seems that 500 homes are in jeopardy. Over 10K sold last month or 1.33 days worth if every layed off engineer lost his home. And 500 more people are going to buy them. I don't see the big deal.

Well it would be more than 500 homes. Not that 10k figure you mentioned, but for every high paid engineer, there are two or three jobs that are influenced by them. So you can count on 2,000 jobs being lost.

Not all of the 500 are from here, are they? According to the news story, GD C4 systems is in 200 locations across the country and they did not say how many, if any, layoffs would be in AZ.

From what I heard, 500 of the laid off are in the Scottsdale location.

There are more layoffs at GD coming up in October.

Rumor is that Orbital Sciences is about to start laying off people.

OTOH, I hear Intel is hiring engineers, and so is Goodrich, but not enough to counter the amount laid off at GD. And smaller companies are laying off engineers. One that I worked at in 2006 in central Phoenix shut its Phoenix office down. Laid off well over a dozen since February.

According to this June 3rd article, 500 are corporate wide with an unknown number in Scottsdale and Tempe:

General Dynamics C4 Systems announces layoffs

I did post that very same article on a different thread here weeks ago. One of the people who commented has a husband who consulted there. She commented that the 500 are from that one facility in Scottsdale. And she also commented that there are more layoffs in October. I believe her more than a journalist.
