We are relocating out there soon and are weighing two options until we buy.

Moving to Chandler/Gilbert.

#1 - Rent a house for a month of two until we buy a house

or

#2 - Buy a motorhome and live out of it for a month or two.

Anybody have any references or rentals that could help us out? We are coming out there knowing NOBODY.

You are unlikely to find a house that someone will rent to you for only a month or two, unless it's an unusual sublet situation or a snowbird who won't be back here until you are ready to move out.

Unless you want a motorhome once you move into a house permanently, it doesn't make sense to me to buy one to live in temporarily.

I'd give you a third option-- move into an extended stay motel for long enough to find a house to rent for six months to a year. (put your stuff in storage here if necessary) You should rent before you buy, and as stated earlier, you are unlikely to find a place to rent for only one or two months.

Well, we plan on keepin the motorhome so that's okay but would like a place like a house.

The Extended stay motel isn't a bad idea though. Never thought of that.

For only a month or two try vrbo.com (vacation rentals by owner). It'll probably be more expensive, but in this market, it might be difficult to find a decent rental for only a couple months, though "decent" is relative. The thing about a motorhome is that, without knowing where you are going to buy, you might have to pay to store the thing after you buy, as certain HOAs do not allow motorhomes to be parked at residences for more than a couple days at a time.

Which? The VRBOS or the motorhome? Or both?

You'd have to REALLY want the motorhome and plan on using it a lot before going to that expense, both the initial outlay and the storage.

the two best days of motorhome ownership- the day you buy it, and the day you sell it.
having said that, if you are inclined to purchase a motorhome and keep it, it seems to me you have already answered your own question. buy the motorhome and just live out of it for as long as necessary until you find a home.
