Looking at Google maps street view things look a bit "quiet" which is a good thing on one hand, but for a "newbie", maybe not such a good thing. I like the idea of space, views, elbow room but am worried I may feel isolated with husband gone all day. I have been focused on Arrowhead area up to this point. Both locations are equidistant to my husband's workplace on 35th Drive Glendale. Would one or the other be a worse commute for him? It's only about 10 miles. The one complex I looked at was Las Colinas. Can anyone give me any insight here? Thanks!

I live in Tramonto just around the corner from that complex.

It is pretty quiet up here most of the time. My house is about a block from Carefree Highway and on the weekends some of the motorcycles can get pretty loud sometimes.

I commute from here to the Scottsdale Air Park and traffic on I-17 all the way down to the 101 is a breeze. If you have any specific questions about living up in this area, fire away.

musicforme - Thanks! Wow - the questions..hmm. the normal - access to services, Dr. Dentist, Chiropractor Hospital? Safety. Schools ? Partner has a 5 yr old. Entertainment? It appears the outdoor activities would not be in question, which we love. (We presently live in a small coastal town in the Bay Area - lots of walks along the bluffs). What do you view as a drawback/plus to the area. One more thing - our partner is Filipino - would the family feel welcome?

As has been discussed in your other threads on the upcoming move, no one will care about a Filipino family moving anywhere in the area. This is simply not an issue.

Thank you Kim...Don't mean to be repetitive. I'm never sure that the same people read the threads. I won't worry about that one anymore! Just all the hundreds of other things going on........

Understood. Moving to another state can be overwhelming.

Access to dentists? There are a couple within walking distance of that apartment complex, in the same shopping center as the Mountainside Fitness just up 27th at Carefree Highway.

I know there is a Chiropractor that has an office inside the Mountainside Fitness, but I don't know anything about them.

My wife is a former educator in Texas (has a Masters in Reading Education) isn't overly impressed with the Deer Valley School District that serves this area. They may be better than some districts in the Valley, but would not rank high on her personal list. Be aware if your 5 year old will be starting Kindergarten, that Deer Valley does NOT offer full day Kindergarten at no cost. Going full day cost extra, although I don't know much.

If you like the outdoors, you won't have a lack of activities to choose from. Cave Creek Recreation Area is about 10 minutes down the road, Sedona is an hour up I-17, Spur Cross Ranch Conservation area is about 20 minutes away in Cave Creek. There are tons more things if you're willing drive a little more.

I'd feel comfortable saying having a multi-racial family wouldn't be an issue up here. For the most part the housing up here is more expensive than a lot of Phoenix which I would think would attract better educated people as a result. The family to the north of me is bi-racial (husband from Croatia, wife from Taiwan). We also have a bi-racial family two houses down from us (wife is white, husband is black) and I've never heard anyone saying anything negative about either of them.

The main drawback for us is if you want to shop at some of the "higher" end stores, driving into Scottsdale can be a pain depending on the time of day. Based on what I'm getting from your posts, I'm going to guess that isn't something you'd do too often.

As far as pluses, I love the scenery up here. Its nice in the winter time to be able to see snow on some of the mountains up to the north a few times a year. It doesn't stick around for long, but it does happen and sticks around for a few days.

One thing that took some adjustment to me is how much neighbors really leave each other alone on our street. That could be because most of the houses on my street changed ownership in the last two years, or just the culture in Arizona? I'm originally from Texas and used to neighbors being more "friendly".

I'm also surprised at just how Conservative/Libertarian this state is, even more so than Texas. If you're moving here from the Bay Area, it may be a shock to your system.

All that being said, I don't regret at all moving here from Texas. Some of my friends and family in Texas think I'm going to move back some day, and that ain't going to happen. Arizona is home now.

What a wealth of information - thank you so much! You were right - on on all counts re: shopping and politics. I'm prepared....

Only thing you did not mention is healthcare other than Chiro. Is there a choice of Doctors or will that require travel - also I have not checked on proximity of hospital. We will have a BCBS HealthPlan.

Actually my friends little boy and his Mom will be perfectly happy for him to go only 1/2 day. That's another story....

Entertainment - places for me to be inside during the sweltering days at home while husband is working - what about that one?

Your comments on the scenery are a BIG THING for me - Really Big Thing!
