If I end up buying near one of the Mountains - or between them - say North of North Mountain and South of Moon Mountain --- is there anything different about life there that's unique? -- as in more wildlife? More coyotes or hawks or deer? Javelina's, bugs, cats or bear? Eagles or Elk?

There's homes on the North and South of Thunderbird between the two mountains that seem to have been there a long while --- hoping that criminal activity isn't a huge huge part of the wild life too Though I have read concerns about North Mountain - but heck it has four sides to it - is all of N. Mountain 'iffy' with concerns for safety?

Thank you!

North Mountain isn't my "stomping grounds" - so I'll let others comment about that specific neighborhood, however I do live across the street from a big hill/small mountain & I have no complaints. We do have lots of coyotes, hawks & rabbits - one big scorpion in the past 3 years.

If you're actually dug into the mountain I'd expect to see a few more critters - scorpions, snakes, etc. I'd also expect to see hikers, even if it isn't a "hiking" area, people do like to climb hills & aren't always respectful of private property.

I'd keep in mind where the runoff from the mountain is pointed if it rains... you don't want to be in the path of the runoff, nor do you want piles of sand/dirt in front of your house every time it rains....(I never thought of it before I bought here & got lucky, but some of my neighbors aren't that lucky!)...

I've done a lot of hiking on Shaw Butte and North Mountain. Coyote are there but rarely seen. Up near the top of Shaw Butte I've even seen miners cats:

I did a flickr gallery of shots from North Mountain, Shaw Butte and Dreamy Draw:

Sorry most of the pix are bugs and plants. It's hard to get the other critters to pose for me.

Eagles???? Bears???? Deer???? Elk??? No to all the above. Javelina? Not within the urban core.

There are nice neighborhoods in the area of both mountains. Those neighborhoods around Thunderbird, while older, are nice.
