Neighborhood/association recommendation? (Phoenix, Glendale, Summit: apartments, lease, homes)

I'm soon to be moving to the Phoenix area to attend Thunderbird School of MGMT. I really know very little about the area but would love some input from people. I've heard recommendations around the Arrowhead area but I didn't find any apartments that looked very nice...I could just be going about the search poorly.

I'm hoping for a 2 bed or large 1 bed for 1000 or preferably less in a nice area. I'm not really opposed to driving a little bit to get to the university so long as its to move to a much nicer place/community. I'd like an area that has plenty to do without the needs of a car but I will have one if necessary.

Any suggestions?

A family member lived there for a while - management was responsive - the apartments were clean & quiet - you should be well under budget even with a 2 bedroom - it's very close to the school.

Thanks for the reply Zippyman. I have looked at Greentree but was actually considering living even further away. Also, greentree requires a 1 year lease and I wont be in the area next summer. I was looking at Sage Stone at Arrowhead and it does look nice but its kind of hard to choose a place through the internet alone.

Does anyone know any information about Sage Stone or other nice places/neighborhoods in the area?

Just looked at Sage Stone last weekend. Beautiful complex and apartment. That area is very pretty. We wanted more apt for less money, so we decided on Arrowhead Summit - Very convenient for every amenity.
