Hello,
My boyfriend, friend and I are moving to Arizona in Sept for job relocation. We are looking at the Tempe area since that's where a couple friends already reside. I will be working in Scottsdale and my boyfriend will be working in Phoenix so we thought Tempe is a fair medium as well. The problem we are having is trying to find a decent apartment... we are needing a 3bd/2ba since we need 2 bedrooms and an office area. Our price range ideally would be to stick below $1150 a month which really limits what is available. So far the places we are looking at are:

1) Suncadia (Sun River Village)
2) Tempe Groves
3) Galleria Palms
4) Villagio Apartments

We would need something with an in-unit washer dryer. I am fairly picky and like to have things like granite countertops, pantries in the kitchen and a fireplace but I know for $1150 it's not going to happen to have all of that lol. My main concern so far is that when looking on apartmentratings.com all of the apartment complexes have such low ratings and it's quite discouraging. Truly, the most important thing to me is safety. There's been discussions of Tempe's safety and if anyone has any insightful information regarding any of the properties or if you'd be willing to share your experience if you've lived there please do so as it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and hopefully I'll be able to read some helpful responses shortly Also if there's any streets/areas we should definitely stay away from, please let me know that too lol.

Tempe being unsafe lol thats a good one anyway I havent rented in years so cant help you there. I would avoid apartments in the immediate area around ASU down University, Apache and Broadway. Not because they are unsafe but because they are full of college kids unleash you want to be around that crowd.
1) Suncadia (Sun River Village) I live right down the street Baseline and Hardy this area is fine
2) Tempe Groves - Closer to South Tempe the more upscale part of Tempe
3) Galleria Palms - A newer complex I think too close to I-10 may have a lot of freeze noise
4) Villagio Apartments - same as Sun River

Can you make a quick 1-2 day scouting trip? If you're relocating for your job, it might be (not sure about this) a tax deduction. Not sure about the specific complexes you mentioned, but I live 1 mile west of ASU near Tempe Center for the Arts, and there are quite a few apartment complexes in this area. It's a great neighborhood.

Since you're the picky type (like me), your best bet would be to gather a list of potential places, and come see them in person if you are able . When I was looking, I found a place online that I thought was perfect but looked totally different when I came to view in person.

I currently live in condos in Tempe and it's so quiet at night that you could hear a pin drop (with the exception of late last night, but I don't know what that was about ). Anyway, the people are nice and I have a kiddo so if I had any inkling that it wasn't safe, I would most certainly not have moved to this area.

I ran by this place this morning, as it's in my neighborhood. I have no idea what it's like inside, but the outside looked pretty good.
