Wondering if Phoenix and surrounding cities have any safe (low crime) areas which are walking distance to everything or at least...

- LRT or regular bus
- Shopping (preferably malls)
- Restaurants
- Cinemas
- Libraries
- Museums
- etc.

Please list areas or zips. Thanks

what about your employment?

You could probably find someplace where you could get most of those things (downtown wouldn't be a bad option) .... may not be realistic for the daily commute though (if needed)

downtown Scottsdale centered on Camelback and Scotts Rd

downtown Tempe along Mill

24th St and Camelback area

downtown Phoenix centered around Washington and Central

downtown Glendale?? (may not have a mall)

there may be others

these areas have all or almost all of what you request....and I consider walking up to three miles RT to where you're going as a very "walkable" area (I'm a Westerner, you know!).....

Don't need to worry about employment or daily commutes. Considering a place for snowbirding. Downtown has most of those except that its not safe. Any other areas?...does not have to be the city of Phoenix.

Regardless of what you decide, this statement is not correct.

Try azdr0710 suggestions. The only thing I would add is check out some of the area around Arrowhead mall (Peoria I think).

Use google maps and then street view to surf the areas.

My husband and I bought a place in Paradise Valley and this will be our first winter as snowbirds. What we like is that we can walk to the Fashion Square Mall (less than a mile) area, where we can get coffee, go see movies at the big mainstream theatre or the little indy movie theatre and there are quite a few places to eat. We can also walk to Old Scottsdale. There are several condo buildings right around there with some outstanding deals. We actually bought a house in a gated community, but looked at quite a few condos at Safari (loved!) and a couple at Optima.

Best wishes and good luck!

going to add the PV Mall area - Tatum/Cactus/Shea area is very nice with the Indian Bend wash path to boot.....it's crowded with fast-moving cars, but really a walkable area, also.....seems like every store you could want for your entire life is within a mile or less of that area....

don't know about the museum thing, though!

With this possible VERY lmited exception, and possibly some stops on the light rail, I think you're looking in the wrong city. Walking, the Valley of the Sun, and public transportation really don't occur in reality land.

We bought just off I-17 and Happy Valley (on the VERY outer edge of 85310).
There is a bus park and ride facility a few miles away, a safeway and small strip mall within 3 blocks of our house, and two very large shopping centres with a movie theatre within 3 miles.
Walkable? depends on the individual and the time of year... but definitely not walkable like Central Scottsdale would be.
