I know that's a general question, but are there a lot of say $11.00 an hour to say $15.oo hr jobs out there or few and far between?

I am looking to relocate and semi retire, so I will need some work but nothing like 66 plus hrs a week like I do now!.....

It depends on what type of work you're looking for. Security jobs probably pay at the lower range you mention, but are easy to get. Retail pay is always low, but some pay better than others. If you're semi-retired, that may be a sufficient income stream...

Depends on the field. Security pays in your stated range. Some manufacturing gigs do. Many jobs I looked into earlier in the year paid $8-10. Granted the cost of living here is cheaper than other areas I have lived.

I see the homes are cheaper, but what about insurance, taxes, license/vehicle registration and such?

$10.00 an hr migh work, I'll just have to cut back on my car and bike hobbies some...But I'm overboard on that anyway.

There's a lot of warehousing jobs as Phoenix area is becoming a major warehouse/shipping center. Amazon has two huge operations, Macy's, Penneys. Many are expanding and hiring. Jobs pay 12+ per hour. It's not all heavy lifting. This stuff is very high tech these days.

Good thread. I'm wondering that too. I do office stuff as well, I don't know about you OPP but I used to work for OfficeTeam, who do temp jobs and also temp-to-perm jobs. Right now they have a lot that are $10 to $12 for reception type jobs, and where I currently am I could only get $8 doing crappy part time retail. I'm hoping my degree will up that a bit, but perhaps you could go with one of the hiring agencies or look into them?

I didn't know Amazon had operations out there. That's cool I have warehouse experience and things like that. I just have the hardest time finding out what jobs are out there. Aren't most websites like monster.com or whatever, full of spam and outdated jobs?

Also, Dicks Sporting goods is opening a fulfillment center in West Valley also, as well as about a million (ok not a million - but a lot!) of call center jobs and many of those pay above that 11.00 an hour mark.

Our Walmart distribution center down here in Casa Grande pays like 17.00 an hour but I think they get a pretty good waiting list from what I hear.

When I lived in MI the Wal-Mart distribution center was the highest paying general labor gig in the county. I had to wait in line just to apply. The amount of applicants was incredible. Actually applying was worthless unless you knew someone on the inside. Openings always went to relatives and friends of current workers. I would imagine the distro center out here works the same way.

It's relative to where you live now. Property taxes not that high, but you have homeowner's fees in most places (low to high) and water every month. I paid more here for car insurance than Florida, but this is a large metro compared to there. Registrations not sure in comparison--maybe others know. I think electric is relatively high out here, but mostly from May-October when your A/C is on all the time--rest of the time not so bad.
