Moving within the Pacific Time Zone might seem like drama, but it's relatively easy. Especially if you don't have a lot of luggage (stuff, kids, spouse, etc). And if you don't have those, why not go as far as you can go?
You make it seem easy. If it was easy to up and leave to another country, find another job and not struggle like I am here in states, i would have left years ago.

When I was in my 20s I had the traveling urge. Went to old Mexico a few times and loved it. Still have many happy memories of my being up and down the Mexico Pacific coast and in Baja too. But always good to be back in the USA. My parents never underrstood why I had to go to Mexico to have vacation when I should see the states. These days I see the states. Now approaching 50, I don't have the travel urge so much. I am at the peak of my career and am focused on earning moolah. So at some point I could downsize, maybe work at a shop in an upscale coastal community, and spend more time in my fitness regimine. My ideal place to live is the USA. I don't think international travel makes anyone "complete" or better than someone who never traveled internationally. You don't necessarily miss anything. Because when people come back to the USA they always seem to "kiss the ground."

People want to take their cars with them when they move. Long distance driving across the country alone can be overwelming, difficult and stressful. If a car is more than 5 years old, it may not survive the long drive. People fly there by airplane and then sell their cars before they move. They can have their clothes and personal belongings shipped to them after their arrival. It may take a long time to save enough $ to purchase another car. It is difficult to rent an apartment or house without an income to show to the landlord. They would need to stay in a motel while they look for employment. That can take a long time and $ every day that they are there. The best bet would be to get a transfer to another state in which the employer pays for moving expenses. Most people don't have that luxury. $ is the biggest issue when moving long distance.

If you can afford it, I would suggest San Diego over Phoenix. It doesn't have the oppressive 6-month long summer from hell, it has a lot more culture, and it has the ocean. Much better economy too.

Same here, moved here by myself about 15 months ago and so far so good. Of course having no place/family does suck, at least for a while so i am not going to sugarcoat it but it does get better with time. You are in need of a change for whatever reasons and Phoenix (AZ) sounds like a good fit according to what you are looking for.

Especially if you are cute, then don't even hesitate, just move!
Heck, I will even pick you up from the airport!!

I just went to San Diego on Sat. I've been there many times in all seasons and I love it. But I was very happy to be back in Phoenix. I love it here. CA is the kind of place I like to visit, but wouldn't live there for anything in the world.

Yes the economy in San Diego is fantastic. They are looking for house flippers and loan officers if you are interested. :0

Hahahaha! I have to comment here. My daughters and their friends call these guys the "$30K Millionaires".......funny thing though, from what they tell me, most of these guys are originally from the east coast.

And I would say that single life is what a person makes of it. If a person does the bar scene, then expect to happen what happens in every other bar scene in this country - nothing's exclusive to just here in AZ. You can meet people where you least expect to. One of my kids is dating a pro baseball player - she met him standing in the order line at the In-n-Out burger restaurant by the Peoria Sports Complex during spring training. She was on her lunch break.

It is easy if you want it to be. I am a single female (40's) and moved across the country (WAY across the country) by myself in a 10 year old car...it's a toyota, so perhaps a little better than some cars, but if you have it serviced regularly and thoroughly checked before you go, you should be fine.

I have never once had any problems renting places and no one has ever asked me for proof of income. Bascially what it boils down to is some people want the adventure and have a 'can do' attitude, and make it happen, others just wish is would happen but never get to the place where they feel ready to do it.

I have actually driven across country 5 times alone (with my dog a few of the times) and have always done very well. You have to be smart and safe about it, but it can be done and for me moving far away from home for the weather and lifestyle was the BEST thing I have ever done.

PS I live in Sedona and this area (and perhaps all of AZ) seems to attract people who are a little more of the gypsy at heart type. I have many single women friends who have travelled around in RVs, driven cross country in cars and basically just followed their passion. I think it's wonderful!

I have lived in AZ for the past 18 years now--originally from Niagara Falls, NY--and I am moving to Seattle in April----then I read your post, you made me a little sad = lol. I am 29 years old, and my boyfriend moved here from Seattle for 3 years, got a job offer and is now back in Seattle I will be visiting for New Years---I think you would love phoenix if you want the things you listed --lots will bash phoenix--but it does have beautiful things to offer--and once you get past the heat--because you do--just as people get over the "drizzle" in seattle--there is LOTS of things arizona can offer you. If you don't like it or are too homesick, you could always move back to Seattle---and then we can hang out lol.
