My husband recently got a speeding ticket. He choose to plead out and take an online defensive driving course.

Now that he's completed the course - he wants to notify our auto insurance company that he has successfully completed this course and investigate any possible discount available through our auto insurance company.

I think this is a HUGE red flag to the auto insurance company. In other states, Texas for example - taking a defensive driving course is voluntary and if your auto insurance company is willing can result in a 5-10% premium discount. In AZ - is this the case? Or is defensive driving courses used only as a pass for speeding tickets every 24 months?

Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance!

I think here it depends on the company, not what state you are in.... You could simply ask the company IF they offer discounts for policyholders who take defensive driving classes. You don't even have to identify yourselves to ask that question. See what they tell you re if there's any discount at all, or only if you take it of your own accord without a ticket being involved.

EDIT-- tried a google search "defensive driving discount Arizona". There's no indication of any state law or regulation. But, as far as companies are concerned, GEICO will give you the discount, but NOT if you took the school to get out of a ticket. My guess would be that most companies here who offer the discount would say the same thing. But, no harm in (anonymously) asking.
