Besides the usual band-aids, ointments etc. What would be good to keep in the home safety/emergency kit here in the Phoenix area. Anything specific to the area?

I know they have bee sting kits, which as far as I know, nobody has allergies to in our house. Are there other things along that line that would be beneficial?

No. There's nothing that unique about Phoenix that would require special items in an emergency kit.

Are you kidding?

No kit is complete without coyote repellant. It is also a good idea to keep some rope or fishing line and grappling hooks on hand in case a raptor snatches your child or pet out of the backyard.

Tweezers! (for small spines)
Sunscreen, aloe vera gel or soothing ointment for when the sunscreen didn't get renewed quickly enough
mole skin/treatment for blisters

A British family came to the southwest for a long visit. After two weeks, they were utterly exhausted. It turns out that, back in England, they were in the habit of going for a "ramble" (hike) whenever the weather was fine -- which was once every couple of weeks or so. But in the Southwest, they were out hiking all weekend and every day after work!

When I moved here I had a job that required extensive car travel and I asked the old rep if she carried water in her car in case of a breakdown. Her response? - "I suppose water would be nice - you could brew some tea while you were waiting for help"
