I have been reading about kids being allowed to live in sun City For 90 Days in a calnder year. What I am wondering what about kids visiting sun city. I Have 10 grand childern doe that mean that each kid can spend 9 days a year over at are house each calander year. Or is that 90 day for each one. And what counts as a day? A two hour visit? Or an over night stay Or does it only count if they are living at are house? Thinking about moving to sun city but also love to have my grand kids over for visits.

There's not a problem having grandchildren visit. According to this article, your situation would be nine days each per child per year. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/29/us...pagewanted=all Like the article suggests, more and more grandchildren are ending up in grandparents' homes in SC for economic reasons. It's also not usual, particularly over the last 20 years or more, for grandparents to have to take legal custody.

Kids are welcome to visit, just remember Sun City is a retirement community and many people moved here for the peace and quiet and the serenity of the area. We've seen some people let their kids roam through the neighborhood unsupervised yelling screaming and riding skateboards as if they were in a childs playground.

Why would you consider an adult community if you want children around? Would you still want to live there if every resident had 10 grandchildren and had them all over for 90 days?

I know a fair amount of people that live in AA communities. They never had children. They certainly don't want them around for the last third of their life. You might as well live in a regular neighborhood.

Many condo complexes have lots of amenities. They are not age restricted.

I am more of a hardliner on this subject. I don't agree with the Fair Housing Act about the 80%. I think all should be over 55 except for spouses.

People should have a right to live where they want to, but to me age-restricted communities are highly discriminatory.

I don't see how Sun City's no children rule can be enforced too well either.

Does the all-volunteer police force go around to all the houses and inspect each room for little persons hiding in the cracks and crevices?

Doesn't seem very worthwhile or productive.

Well, the article describes how they monitor it in terms of what they look for... they aren't going in the houses, so let's not get started down that road.

Age restricted communities are not "highly discriminatory" according to the courts; no one has to live in one, and if one has lots of grandchildren they like to have visit, it may not be the best idea to live in one, but people have the right to choose that lifestyle if that's what they would prefer.

Every single person that moves into an AA community agreed to the rules when they purchased their home. These places have been around for 50 years. If there was no market for them, they would have been gone long ago.

I appreciate that we have so many choices in housing in this country. We were tired of teenagers, and we have owned three of them in the past, so please don't blast me for not wanting to endure other peoples teens. Some are wonderful future adults and some are destined for the slammer in my opinion. We like living in an age restricted development and yes, we have little kids visiting their grandparents all the time. Had a herd of them behind us last night and it did not bother us at all. To each his own.

No need for police inspections - more likely a nosey neighbor marking his calendar. At one time we thought of living there, but not now. Moderator cut: snip

Will the HOA do anything about that problem if someone complains? Peace and quiet is one of the reasons I want to move to an age-restricted community with an HOA, but I've never had an HOA before so I don't know if they have their own noise ordinances and enforce them.
