West valley generally refers to everything west of Central in Phoenix. East is everything east of central. The north valley applies to everything north of Loop 101, and the South Valley, I'd say, is everything south of Baseline Road.

Yeah and we also have the SE Valley SW, NE, NW. Just to confuse you more.

Well, actually the north valley is way south of the 101. The 101 is really north. Some people even think north of camelback or so is the north valley, which I totally disagree with. If you look at central phx, the 101 is WAY up there. I think anything north of shea is the north valley, it's just we are building so much up north.

You can probably take a map and draw lines right down the middle in both directions and figure it out that way. Then for the NW,NE,SW,SE, you could draw two more lines and it would probably work out. I don't know though as I never tried it.

Hah. People would have to live in Maricopa to think of Camelback as the north valley line. Looking at it, you're right about the 101.. Should probably be shea.

I made something crappy! But.. Visual representation always helps.

Nice! But the only real "rivalry" was (is) east vs west valley. I can't remember how many years ago it was - quite a few for sure, but I saw a news story on the size of Phoenix. At that time, the geographical center of the city was 19th Avenue and Bethany Home. Any old timers out there remember that?

Camelback as north; that goes way back too! I CAN remember when anything north of Camelback WAS considered North Scottsdale.

You seem to have drawn a line directly through my house, so now I don't know whether I'm East or West. So what's the "rivalry" between East and West?

Traditionally, the east valley has received the bulk of new development, thus, it had a higher population, and more wealth. This sparked a sort of resentment I guess. East valley people always seem(ed) to sort of look down on the west side, as if it wasn't up to par with the east valley cities.

Bull.

Well, now, we're growing like a weed, and the east valley is almost built out. Take that. =D

At least.. thats how I perceive it.
