Where do most people in the Phoenix area go to get away, say for the day or even a weekend trip?

For beach trips, I assume Rocky Point (Mexico) or somewhere in Southern California (San Diego, etc)? To go someplace with more green (forest or lots of trees) or possible snow, further north towards Flagstaff?

Where I'm from (middle part of North Carolina), most people going to the beach head to Myrtle Beach, SC, or some place on the coast of NC. Other than that, there's mountains and skiing (in the winter) within a day’s drive around Asheville and other parts of NC and Virginia.

We've lived here 2 years. So far we've taken overnight/weekend trips to LA, Vegas, & the Grand Canyon. For day trips we've done Sedona, Jerome, Montezuma's castle, Mt Lemmon.
There are many more places on our radar. Lots of scenic and historic places to visit.

And yes, Flagstaff or the White Mountains. You can be in real forest less than 2 hours from Phoenix.

San Diego/LA, Las Vegas, Sedona, Flagstaff, Pinetop/Lakeside, Tucson, Palm Springs, Grand Canyon, National Parks in Southern Utah, are all places we have been since moving here four years ago.

Rocky Point is a major attraction for Arizonans and pot dealers

I have yet to make an official weekend trip during my time here. Monument Valley and Tombstone are two trips I hope to make this year.

I love taking day trips up to northern Arizona: Prescott, Jerome, Sedona, Flagstaff, Payson, Show Low.

For longer and more expensive trips, I like to hit the beach areas in either San Diego or Los Angeles.

And once a year as I have done for the last 30 years, I spend a week camping up (somewhere) on the Mogollon Rim.

But mostly, I just stay in town and play a round of golf every weekend.

That's a bit of a stretch. We drove it this past weekend on our way to and from Hollywood.
It's about 270 miles to Palm Springs so to get there in 3 hours you'd have to be averaging 90.

It's not a bad drive tho...
