She is.

It was your quote of my post that confused me.. not enough coffee yet, either....

LBTRS, hope you get some more info on this, and soon. I'd be concerned, too.

observer53,

Sorry, I have no idea why I've always thought you were a "he". My mistake, guess I should have looked at your profile...I'll definitely let you know what comes of my written request.

LBTRS, I do not live in your state. But years ago I worked with Animal Control elsewhere and I might can help you get the info that I think you should have, being as you live right there where the police reported a dog incident took place, where the blood was on your sidewalk.

Sending a letter as you were told is THE way to go, so hopefully they will respond in a timely way to you. But you can ALSO either go down to the Shelter or Animal Control or you can call down there. Ask to speak to either the Director of the Shelter or the Chief Officer of Animal Control. Hopefully the Director is there and available when ou visit, and hopefully you won't get stuck with a callback when you call, altho the latter is very likely. Chief AC Officers are usually out working, and depending on if some trying circumstance happens that day, like the front end of their truck got shot out by an angry dog owner, they may or may not get back to you right away.

Two things to mention after stating the reason for your visit or call are: (1) Tell them you live directly in front of where large amounts of blood were on the sidewalk from the dog incident that the police reported taking place in your neighborhood recently. That way the Director or Chief will understand immediately that you are not some random person inquiring. (2) Tell them you have children who play in the front yard right where all the blood was, as well as you were recently subject to a near attack by perhaps one of the pit bulls reportedly involved in the incident you're inquiring about, that you need to know for your family's safety what happened out there. That will let the Animal Control officials know you may be in danger also, and thus may be more forthcoming.

The Director or Chief SHOULD be able to almost instantly tell you what happened, the status of the dogs, and so forth, since it recently happened, and frankly the blood all over the place is somewhat unusual, so the situation should stick out in their minds. Also, as to someone else here posting that normally when there's blood, police call the fire department to have it washed down, it COULD be since Animal Control was handling the incident, that they failed to call the fire department. So, just as a favor to them, after you get whatever info you need, you might find a way to tell them about that, that police usually call the fire department, but that you wound up rinsing it off as best you could yourself. They'll know better next time what to do about blood at a scene. Also, could be if you mention you were almost attacked by a pit bull in the same neighborhood just a few days ago, they may want to get a report from you about the incident, so you need to make up your mind whether you want to report it or not before you call or go down there. Normally reports are anonymous, but just make sure yours will be, if you decide to report it.

Lastly, my suggestion to you is, if it's possible and not too costly and something you might like, consider having a real wooden or wire fence built around your yard where your children play. They will be safer that way.

Thanks for the great information. The problem is that I live in Maricopa County which is a huge bureaucracy and the folks you mentioned are not accessible like they would be in a smaller city/county. The county covers a population of 4 million people so everything is a hassle when dealing with them. The closest shelter is 25 miles away in the City of Phoenix and I have no idea if the Director or Chief works at that location as there are other locations.

I will try the written request and see if that gets me anywhere.

Also, due to all the HOA rules you can't build fences in front yards of most suburban Arizona homes.

Again, thanks for taking the time to provide that great information.

Hey, thanks LBTRS, for the extra key info. Yup, I worked in a much smaller county/city situation. But actually, since you mentioned it, if Maricopa County has a shelter (it should, unless that's Phoenix), it would be smaller and would have been the one to respond to your area... it would be real easy to talk to their director. All shelters have their own director. Well, let us know what happens. GG

The "shelter" IS county animal control, the same people who require him to make a written request.. City is not involved.

Default UPDATE with Report

Again, thanks for all the advice. I received a copy of the report from MCAC which doesn't clear it all up. It looks like the two pitbulls attacked another dog and the owner of the other dog was bitten and stabbed the dog. That must be where all the blood came from. I still don't know if these dogs are still in the area or even what dogs attacked.

This clear to anyone else?

How do you even know it was two pit bulls?

I think if I wanted further info I'd go ask the person who got bit, since her info is listed. I'm sure she'd be happy to tell you which dogs, where they are now, etc.
