I am overdue for an eye exam and new glasses and would like recommendations for where to go in the east valley. My husband recently got new glasses from Nationwide and is very unhappy with them - they are scratched badly already. So does anyone know where I can get glasses for a reasonable price that won't scratch quite so quickly? Any place with senior discounts?

Costco, LensCrafters, America's Best, EyeMasters, Eyeglass World, Sears, Walmart... I've used and been pleased with Costco and LensCrafters.

Go to Sams Club or Costco for the exam and maybe the glasses. They have reasonable prices. If you really want to save, buy the glasses online. When I was dealing with cataracts, I had to buy a new pair every 2 months or so. I could get about 6 online for the price of one at the local shops.

I agree with Costco. I have horrible vision and my lenses alone generally cost $275+ and at Costco they are $80.

Not as concerned with price as quality. Any affordable independent optometrists?

I would go with Lenscrafters. They provide quality lenses and if they are scratched and that particular store doesn't replace them....guess what, you can complain to corporate headquarters and that will force them to replace them. The problem with independent optometrists is they answer to no one. If they are having a bad day and want to take it out on you, they can. With chains, you can always go on-line and file a customer complaint against the employee and the regional manager will address it and usually take care of the issue for you. Works every time whether you are talking about airlines, hotels, restaurants, fast food, clothing stores etc! It never fails...get corporate involved and the snooty local managers fear for their jobs!

I've had nothing but great results with Lenscrafters and they usually offer good customer service and will adjust other pairs of glasses for you for free even if you didn't buy them from there.

Be really careful about buying glasses online as I have read some horror stories about them being poor quality, wrong prescription, and fall apart as they are often made in china. Be sure to ask where they are made!

I just got mine at Target - the one at Desert Ridge is good. Good prices for the glasses and the exam.

I always go to a local Ophthalmologist (MD) for my exam and prescription. Then I head over to zennioptical.com and order up a pair of glasses for usually less than $40.

What's your turnaround time with Zenni? I used them once and it took 3-4 weeks for delivery as I recall. I use 39dollarglasses.com and they come in a week usually. Zenni has a much larger selection of frames though, so I might try them again, but don't like the long lag time.
