So I have lived in more than one state... (CA, TN, OH, TX) and AZ - PHX area is THE first state that I have had THE hardest time finding a great place to workout. Lifetime - too expensive and too crowded, Orange Theory & Boot Camps - too expensive, Golds Gym - Rude & too expensive. And the ONE bootcamp I loved... and was almost willing to throw down a pretty penny is about 40 minutes from work and 30-45 minutes from my house.

Is there a smaller gym that anyone recommends?

-I want to be able to have a spin class or kickboxing class and not have to pay extra in order to attend these classes.
-I would like a kick butt free weights area and not over crowded or with rude staff...
-Located between Downtown PHX, Tempe, Mesa or Chandler areas...
-And not have to pay $50-$300 a month... Is that too hard to ask?

Call me crazy but I need help if someone has ANY input it would be greatly appreciated.

Anytime Fitness (32nd St and Baseline in Phoenix) is a smaller gym. No pool, but they offer the different classes you're looking for. Just like any gym the peak hours before 8am and around 5pm can be crowded. When I went there the cost was around $30 a month with a year contract. Staff were nice and stayed out of your way if you wanted to be left alone.

They are opening a brand new LA Fitness on 24th St and Baseline in Phoenix. I've heard grand opening should be in a few weeks. From the outside the gym looks huge and should be able to handle a large amount of people. It's suppose to have everything. Pool, juice bar, classes, etc... I was an LA Fitness member years ago and I paid around $30 a month as well for a year contract. I'm not sure what the prices are now. The downside to LA Fitness is their sales staff can be pushy but the regular GYM staff also stayed out of my way when I wanted to be left alone.

The upside to both is that if you have a membership you can use any of the gyms in the valley and aren't locked in to one location.

I go to Gold's in Scottsdale and it's around $29.95 a month for me. I think it's $25 for new members. I doubt you're gonna find anything cheaper than that, especially with their kind of facility.

Fitness Forum, NW corner of Chandler and Dobson. All classes inclusive in membership. I pay $27 a month corporate discount but it wasn't much higher without the discount.

The Gold's by me is great. It's on Elliot Rd between I-10 and 48th so really easy to get to. They also only cost $20 per month with unlimited classes, and they do have good free weights. It's a more hardcore chain gym than most you'll find around Phoenix.

when i visited AZ, i went to the Golds Gym in Scottsdale, i have to say it was a very nice gym compared to the gym we have here in MA. And while i was there i saw they were running a special $10 a month if you joined, cant beat that price..
i pay $37 for Golds here in Ma and the equipment is about 15 yrs old...rediculous ! But its 2miles from my house so i go there.

The Gold's I mentioned above is $10/month for the basic membership, too (which just doesn't include the classes). That's what I use, and can't beat that price.

Try this site: Health Clubs in 85048 - Phoenix, AZ Gyms Of course, put whatever zip code you like. I like 24 Hour Fitness - I got a smoking deal when they first opened, because I pre-paid for 3 years - now I get it for $20 per year!
