This I saw on AZCentral online. I'm surprised that the future freeway section of Loop 303 that would run through Glendale (from Camelback Rd to Peoria Ave) isn't already part of the city of Glendale already. The city want to spur commercial development to gain more revenue in the future.

I'm confused trying to understand your question. The 303 is a lot further north than
Peoria Ave. The city of Glendale is going to annex land further north from what i understand which makes since. When the freeway is complete they're going to build more shopping, businesses, and homes along the freeway. Just like how Phoenix city limits kept extending further and further north as growth allowed it to do so. Well Glendale is doing the exact same thing.

I believe the stretch of the 303 in question is the north-south portion, that is currently under construction. Not the completed portion in the north valley. Glendale cannot annex to the north as it is landlocked by the city of Peoria.

From what I recall, the plan is to annex the land on the western side of Luke Air Force Base, fronting the 303 in that part of the west valley.

That said, the land is going to be pretty tricky to develop on, as development is restricted by the base. I don't think you'll see any residential or commercial, but you'll probably see some warehouse and industrial development. This is the same issue El Mirage is running into with their southern areas.

Yeah, I probably could have done a better job in my original post. I figured that Loop 303 between Camelback and Peoria was already in the city of Glendale, like the area south of Camelback is officially in the city of Goodyear, and north of Peoria is the city of Surprise. (This goes back to the strip annexation done back in the 70s.)

As far as Glendale goes, it's easy to knock them for their current financial woes. I would like to see them turn it around. If it means annexing land around Loop 303, or figuring out the situation with the proposed casino near the Westgate area, I'd like to see them doing stuff.
