I am planning to make a traditional tamale dinner for Christmas Eve and from my research, it says yucca (a/k/a/ "yuca") fries are a good side dish. I don't want to make them from scratch but have read that there are frozen ones on the market. Does anyone know where I can find them? Thanks in advance.

Mmmmmmmm that sounds tasty! We go to Ranch Market all the time and I can assure you they do have the whole Yucca roots, but I have never seen them frozen. I am curious to what country you are modeling your traditional dinner after. If I had to guess I would say Guatemala, Honduras or Salvador? Those are the only countries I can think of who eat both Tamales and Yucca too... Most of the Tamales we get in Arizona are Mexican style (which are very different from the ones from Guatemala Honduras and Salvador), and the country most known for eating Yucca is the Dominican Republic....I gotta go eat now, I made myself hungry just thinking about it!

I called the Ranch Market and sure enough, they don't carry the frozen ones. I saw pictures of the frozen ones on-line but nobody seems to carry them so I guess I will have to try my hand at making them from scratch!

My husband and I bought a house in Anthem last spring and this is our first winter in AZ. I keep hearing that tamales are traditional for Christmas so I figured, why not? I Googled what you serve as a side and the yucca fries came up and they sound delicious. This is the recipe I plan to use:

Yucca Fries Recipe : Guy Fieri : Recipes : Food Network

I have never been to the countries you mention, El Waiboi, but if I every do, it would be fun to sample theirs. :-)

You can get Yucca at Food City and Lee Lees in Chandler they come frozen in a 1 or 5lb bag. You boil the yucca for 10-15 minutes then cut them into fries and cook them in hot oil very much like a potato. The best Yucca comes from Colombia but here mostly they have yucca from Costa Rica. It is great in soups and stews.

The traditional Mexican Christmas dinner (in my mind) is Pozole, Tamales, Champurrado and Buñuelos! And of course to bring it in al estilo Mexicano, we start celebrating the 24th in the early evening, and let the kids open presents at exactly midnight and keep on celebrating until much later. Then the 25th, when we finally roll out of bed we have some more Pozole to help fight off the hangover and spend the day relaxing with the family. Now that is a traditional Mexican X-mas!
