Thankfully, there is no BSL (breed specific legistlation) in Maricopa County as far as I can tell.

Definitely not, there are tons of them around here. Seems that Hispanics like pitbulls and with the large Hispanic population there are a lot of pitbulls around.

Ignorant comment. Pit bulls have a bad rap (no pun intended) because they are commonly abused and bite as a defense mechanism. Show a Golden Retriever nothing but fear, pain and violence and it'll react in the same way. It's sad. Pit bulls can be extremely gentle, loving and goofy dogs and I've met many that have been great pets.

As a pitbull owner I can gladly say there is no BSL here. Best breed of dog very loyal wouldn't trade for a thing else

I know of no legislation or ordinances against pit bulls. However if you are planning on renting you may find it difficult if you have a pit bull, and some HOA's may have breed specific rules even if you are an owner. This is mostly due to insurance rules as many insurance companies either will not insure or will charge a higher premium if one is present.

Pit bulls can be some of the nicest, most well behaved pets, but are often mis-trained or abused but paranoid owners.

I've bred and trained dogs in the past and you can't argue that certain breeds are more likely to show aggressive behavior than other breeds. Every breed was developed for a purpose and the dog is going to display the characteristics of the breed unless they are trained not to (which takes a lot of work).

A mistreated and abused Basset Hound is much less likely to run down the street attacking other dogs or people than a mistreated and abused Pit Bull. I've taken in mistreated and abused dogs from shelters who were afraid of their own shadow and would cower when you walked in. I've never had one that was aggressive and looking for a fight like I've seen of many Pit Bulls. (please see my previous thread where I posted the Maricopa Animal Care And Control report of the Pit Bull attack in front of my house).

Again, I'm not anti Pit Bull but you need to be realistic and not portray a breed that was developed to be strong and aggressive as a passive family friendly breed.

To the OP: make sure you know what your home owners insurance will allow. Our policy specifically asked if we owned a pit bull (along with a couple other breeds) so having a pit bull may make insurance hard or more expensive to get.
My insurance made me send them a picture of my dog. They won't insure if you have certain breeds.

Wow, that is amazing...they took my word that I didn't have one of the breeds listed.
