AZ RAISED said "Does Phoenix have any "ghetto" areas? Yes. What big city doesn't. Is it worst than others? I would say yes. For example, I currently live in Jacksonville Fl and this is a very poor/black town but the ghettos don't compare to some in Phx or in AZ."

I also have lived in Jacksonville and Phoenix, and I feel a lot safer in Phoenix. I looked up the crime statistics on City Data and they're pretty similar. The crime index for Phoenix is 415 and the index for Jacksonville is 395, so within five percent.
