I currently live in northeast PA, but have lived in Denver, and am planning a move to AZ. That's all I can offer.

I've lived in phoenix, around zip 85015 for many many years. I moved here from Tucson (where neighbors were friendly) to phoenix (not so friendly and borderline hostile). I have lived in nice neighborhoods like around union hills and 83rd ave and where I am now (not so nice anymore). The heat is one thing, the people are another. Don't get me wrong, some people are nice but some are not-so nice. I guess its just like everywhere else. One thing that I notice every single year, when it gets hot and the day time temps for weeks on end are around 110-120 degrees, people will freak out!! Road rage, lots of violence. People will shoot another person just for looking at them. The winter (if one could call it that) is the absolute best time in phoenix. The weather is great, people aren't so moody yet. But then right around the corner is the brutal heat. It will suck the life out of anybody. Good luck on what u decide on.

The OP asked for opinions from people from Denver...not Phoenix haters from Tucson.

Good grief. There is nothing even remotely ghetto about Queen Creek and I disagree that it's gone downhill in recent years. It's also not 1.5 hours to Phoenix, however, it might be close to/approx. an hour to downtown - which is beyond the travel time the OP wants.

OP, many areas here have HOA's and I don't know if many/any will permit a home-based daycare, so you may want to research any communities which interest you thoroughly.

Lol, no kidding. Queen Creek is perfectly fine. Now San Tan Valley, formerly part of Queen Creek, has some issues here and there.

Forbes listed Queen Creek as the 15th friendliest town in the US: http://www.forbes.com/pictures/mhj45...ueen-creek-az/

Gilbert/Chandler is your best bet because of the commute, specifically the areas around the 202. Everything is basically brand new.

If you are unsure about marrying someone then you probably shouldn't get married. If you are unsure about a job, you shouldn't take that job. If you are unsure about purchasing a car, you shouldn't get that car. If you are unsure about having kids, don't have kids. There is a reason you have concerns and it's probably a good idea to listen to your instincts and not move here. That doesn't mean Phoenix is a bad city, it just means it may not be right for you.

I love Phoenix but it's not for everyone. If you have concerns, you probably shouldn't move here. In my experience, the people who have doubts or concerns end up dislking this place after some time. Initially, they like it but then after 5 years, they get tired of the city for the same concerns they initially had.
Please, life is NOT a certainty, anyway you look at it. And especially when you are considering a move to a new state. You cannot be sure you will like anything unless you actually try it. Having concerns are ok. Having a reasonable doubt is ok too. But facing your fears and doing it anyway is the promise of a better life.

I grew up in Denver and moved to Phoenix after graduating from college. My husband went to college there and stayed there for about 20 years. We had 3 kids and moved back to Denver 6 years ago to be near family. My mom passed away 1 1/2 years ago and now we're looking at moving back to Phoenix. Like another poster said, we don't ski (we CAN, but don't ) and don't do any winter sports. Summers are great here, but it's just the reverse there. Like yesterday, my daughter played through a freezing soccer practice...down there it would be a sweltering practice. I would say that unless you have a huge list of things you love about Denver that you can't get anywhere else, you'd have a hard time leaving. I'd say with your little ones I think you won't regret being near family. We lived in East Mesa before and it'll be a bit of a commute if you go to Queen Creek though.
Good luck with your decision!
