It seems that a common urban myth is that Phoenix is more humid than Tucson. However, according to the National Weather Service/NOAA, average humidity in Phoenix is actually lower.

So, why is the myth of Phoenix being more humid than Tucson so heavily promoted? Is it because swamp coolers are more common in Tucson? Is it because of the many canals and golf courses here in the Phoenix area?

I didn't know the myth was "promoted"....I think the extensive irrigation that exists in the Phx area (there are no canals in Tucson and no wide-spread irrigation) gave rise to the belief that Phx is more humid....certainly feels that way if you stand in the middle of Arcadia on a toasty August afternoon

Never heard of Phoenix being more humid than Tucson. Actually the relative humidity levels are nearly the same for both cities.
Tucson is slightly higher in elevation and slightly cooler.

I always thought it was more humid in Tucson because of a mix of real monsoons, elevation, and snow.

yeah .... i've never once heard that Phoenix was more humid

people do talk about tucson being a little cooler, having more substantial day/night splits and a more active monsoon ..... i've found most of that to be true ..... but haven't heard anyone complain that Phoenix is humid or noticeably different than tucson in this regard
