I love Verizon's coverage, but the price stings. AT&T flat out does not work in my house in Cave Creek. I'm thinking of trying T-Mobile, since there's no contract and then I'm free to go back to Verizon if it's no good. I travel overseas about once a year and my iPhones have always worked there for me. Any suggestions?

I dont think you're going to beat Verizon in terms of coverage. There's a reason they're expensive.

It's hard to beat Verizon but T-Mobile really isn't all that bad for the price and you get unlimited 4g data for your iPhone. However, if AT&T (which has pretty good coverage nonetheless) doesn't work in your house in Cave Creek then there's a good chance T-Mobile might not either.

You can take your own phone to Straight Talk, which is really Tracfone, which uses the Verizon network. Around 40 a month no contract and unlimited text, calls and data.

Or purchase a cell phone repeater for your home.

T-Mobile won't be any better than AT&T. In fact, Root Metrics for the very first time has recently rated AT&T's Phoenix area coverage on par with Verizon. Avoid Sprint at all costs; they have the worst coverage in the Valley.
