Those complaining about beige have obviously not lived in any new suburbs anywhere in the country or western hemisphere. Light neutral colors are the norm, gray on a light pink/salmon color is considered risque. Maybe the odd shade of red too.

"it's a midwestern conservative thing"...is complete BS.

I blame the beige on the builders who must buy a zillion gallons of the same color at one time so they can paint all the homes in a development the very same color at the same time. (Boring) In our development we were recently given a choice of colors to repaint our 20 year old homes. Guess what? All of the choices were shades of beige ! Even the HOA likes beige.
