You moved across the country without realizing Phoenix is in the Sonoran Desert? Nothing "sad" about a desert being hot during summer. And kids do just fine here (indoors and outdoors) year round. I hope you do more research the next time you move. Best wishes on wherever you end up.

Yes, a little cooling from water in a pool or sprinkler does in fact make the summer heat quite acceptable for much of the day, just like fun warm summer days elsewhere, even though many here use the heat as an excuse to be shut-ins aka old and boring. One can always avoid the peak heat hours here, which also helps.
